Vision Care for Low Vision, or Partially SightedLow vision, partial sight or subnormal vision may be defined as reduced central visual acuity or visual field loss which even with the best optical correction provided by regular lenses still result in visual impairment from a performance standpoint. After a comprehensive medical, family and social history is taken, a comprehensive eye and vision examination is performed to determine how we can best improve the patient's vision. Some of the conditions which can be treated with special low vision aides include: Keratoconus, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and cataracts. Patients who are partially sighted may now be helped through the use of a variety of low vision aides including microscopic and telescopic spectacles, optical projection devices, projection monitors, special contact lenses and many other forms of visual aides.
